Partnership With Windermere Lake Cruises

28 July 2021

We are proud to announce a new and far-reaching partnership with Windermere Lake Cruises, the largest operator of water based leisure trips on England’s largest lake. The announcement will see many families affected by cancer enjoying a free lake cruise this summer in one of the UK’s most spectacular settings.

Both couples and families (up to four people) will be able to choose either the Red or Yellow cruise around Lake Windermere.  Each cruise lasts between 75 and 90 minutes but people are able to jump on and off at each of the stops around the lake and then catch another boat later in the day.  Consequently, it is possible to spend an entire day on or around the lake enjoying the spectacular towns and scenery.

All steamers have disabled access and there are toilet facilities onboard.  Well behaved dogs are allowed on the boats too and additional tickets can be bought on the day if required.  Parking is not included; we recommend parking at Lakeside for the Yellow cruise and Ambleside for the red cruise.

People from all over the UK will be able to apply for these incredible days out through Sail 4 Cancer’s partner charity Something To Look Forward To. Places are strictly limited however so interested parties should register their interest early. Proof of medical diagnosis will be required before booking vouchers are issued.

Andrew Hayward, Trustee at Sail 4 Cancer explained:

“The pandemic has been a really stressful time for families living with the effects of cancer. Many of the people we help have had vital treatment and surgery postponed or cancelled altogether. More than ever, these families need something nice to look forward to after an incredibly difficult 18 months.”

“These day cruises are not just for families where someone within the family until has cancer. They are also for families who have suffered a bereavement in the last 12 months. These day trips will give families the chance to build precious memories and/or remember loved ones who have been recently lost to this cruel disease.”

“Windermere Lake Cruises has been incredibly generous in donating a large number of both ‘couple’ and ‘family’ passes to Sail 4 Cancer and we cannot thank them enough for their incredible support. These cruises will make a massive difference to the lives of many this summer.”

Jennifer Cormack, Marketing Director at Windermere Lake Cruises said:

“Like many people, I also know many people who have been touched by cancer. I’ve seen at first hand the health benefits that spending time on the water can bring and I hope this partnership will have a positive impact in many different ways, not just from a fundraising point of view but also from the perspective of providing respite from the disease.”

Commenting on this exciting new offering, Francesca Abery, Managing Director at Something To Look Forward To said:

“We have been working with the team at Sail 4 Cancer for several years now and we expect these trips on Lake Windermere to be extremely popular. Together, we will give families something special to look forward to during the most difficult of times.”
